Almost two years after the demise of the late highlife musician Daasebre Gyamenah, his second wife has publicly revealed the ‘irresponsible’ side of her late husband.
Speaking in an interview on the entertainment segment of Adom TV’s Badwam, Ahosepe, Madam Amina Ibrahim shocked Ghanaians with a revelation that her late husband was not performing his duties as a father and husband.
Monitored by Ghanaweb, she confessed that her husband’s promiscuous lifestyle forced her to spend all her business capital on their now 9-year-old son who was sick for more than 4 years.
“My son became very sick for more than 4 years, I was the only person taking care of him. He became paralyzed and I had to move him from one place to another. At the end of the day, there was not even a penny left for me to take him to the hospital. I used all my savings and even my business capital.”
When pushed further by the host she revealed that “things became very difficult that Daasebre stopped coming to us(Amina and her child), He didn’t take care of his child”.
Madam Aminah added that though she was married to Daasebre Gyamenah for some years, he never cared for her.
“Daasebre stopped coming to me, he was always with his first wife. The hardship began when he was alive because I was the one doing everything for our child.”
Though Daasebre Gyamena had several hit songs and albums to his credit, his second wife said, her late husband always denied having money.
She refused to comment on whether Daasebre’s first wife was the one stopping her late husband from taking care of her.
Background
Daasebre Gyamena passed away in the early hours of Friday, July 29, 2016. He was finally laid to rest on November 26, 2016 after a tussle over who has the right to bury Daasebre Gyamenah ended up in court.
The late musician’s maternal family had gone to court to seek an injunction to stop the paternal family in Koforidua from burying the musician on a proposed October 14 date.
Madam Amina, his second wife was absent at his funeral.
Profile of the late musician
Born Kojo Gyamenah, the singer, who is from a royal family, is said to have added ‘Daasebre’ to his name to distinguish him from others with the same name.
He first shot to fame in 1990 and has won numerous awards. His fans sometimes called him ‘Ahoofe’; after one of his most popular songs of the same name.
The singer was arrested at Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom for possession of drugs. In May 2007, he was acquitted of the charges and received a rapturous welcome on his return to Ghana.
In 2002, he won four awards at the Ghana Music Awards; including Best Male Vocal Performance and Album of the Year. At the time, he had won more awards than any other musician in the country.
His last album was Yenfii Ta, which was released in 2015. After his acquittal, he struggled to return to the music heights he had previously achieved.
Daasebre produced numerous hit songs that became the must-have soundtrack for weddings in the country. They include ‘Kokoko’, ‘Still I love You’, ‘Calling’ and ‘Wo da enda’
