Kumasi-based movie actor and artiste, Kwaku Manu has expressed sentiments over the low patronage of Ghanaian movies and has blamed the NPP government for abandoning the movie industry.

The actor who was a guest on the ‘Delay Show’ on Sunday stated emphatically that, his colleague actors and actresses will soon hit the streets selling coconut if the government does not treat the industry like their own property.

“The president has met with the press twice since he came into government but he has never mentioned anything about the movie industry, trust me, if something is not done soon, in the next four years, actors will go into coconut selling business”. Kwaku Manu stressed.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo has never organised a meeting between movie producers to discuss the well-being of the industry and make an agreement with an investor like Zylofon Media boss, Nana Appiah Mensah to help lift, sell and make Ghanaians consume the country’s films.

He indicated that some attitudes exhibited by his colleagues, produces, directors hinder the progress of the industry.

Kwaku Manu further stated that unlike the Ghana movie industry, there is so much love and unity within Nollywood actors and actress.

Barely a year ago, actress, Yvonne Nelson also launched a campaign on social media, forming a coalition of industry persons to present a petition to the government to help breath a new lease of life into the movie industry.
