Highlife artiste, Nana Kyei Baffour, known as Koo Kyei in showbiz yesterday took to Facebook Live Video to crown himself the Highlife King and urged Ghanaians to go back to the country’s true form of music – Highlife.

He said that dancehall and azonto songs have taken over the indigenous music.

“My new song “ABENA” will be the Resurrection of Highlife. Now look at highlife, it’s really struggling but we all know the likes of Paa Kwasi, Kwabena Kwabena, Kumi Guitar and others are doing great but still Dancehal and Azonta have taken over” said Koo Kyei.

According to him, the nature of highlife is such that if not played live, it loses its weight. Koo Kyei however urged highlife musicians to learn how to perform their songs live.

“Highlife artistes should be given the platform to perform their songs live” he urged.

Koo kyei is one of the artiste who has survived and kept highlife music alive, even at a time when the likes of Ghanaian dancehall, rap and afro-pop genre have dominated the heart and mind of the masses.
