Delegates at Afram Plains South Constituency in the Eastern Region have massively voted for the former Honorable Member of Parliament Mr Joseph Appiah Boateng to lead the party as their parliamentary Candidate for 2020 General election.
The sitting MP Mr. Eric Osei Owusu was able to pull out 260 votes whiles the former regional secretary of the NDC Mark Oliver Kevor who resigned to contest the seat had 227 votes.
Out of the 841 total votes cast, Joseph Appiah Boateng pulled out 352 votes but 2 rejected.
Prior to the 2016 election, Joseph Appiah Boateng who was the Parliamentary Candidate withdrew from the race following a suit filed in court against him by one NPP member Dickson Agyei Danso. (67 days to the 2016 elections).
An Accra High Court in 2016 granted an application for an interlocutory injunction against Joseph Appiah Boateng.
The plaintiff Dickson Adjei Danso prayed the court to restrain the defendant from campaigning for the December polls until a final determination of the case.
But on Friday 8th December 2017, an Accra High Court General Jurisdiction 3 presided over by Justice Daniel Mensah cleared the former Member of Parliament of any wrongdoing.
At Aframs Plains South on Saturday 24th August 2019 just after the EC declared him the winner, some delegates in an interview with Agoo fm news expressed confidence in him as a leader who can transform the area without sleeping on the job.
According to them, his tenure as MP saw massive development in Afram Plains South the reason to bring him back to continue the good works.
Addressing journalists, Joseph Appiah Boateng expressed his willingness to work closely with all the aspirants to ensure Afram Plains South is recognized as one of the best Constituency in the country.
