Brother of legendary Ghanaian musician Abrekyireba Kofi Sammy, Kwame Botwe, has revealed that the celebrated highlife artist did not acquire any wealth from his music career.
According to him, Abrekyireba owned no known properties, including cars or houses, stressing that if he had any such assets, the family is not aware of them. The revelation sheds light on the often-overlooked struggles of some pioneers in Ghana’s music industry despite their massive influence and popularity.
Kwame Botwe made this disclosure during an interview with Kumi Kasa on Max 89.7 FM’s entertainment show dubbed “Showbiz Max”. His comments have sparked conversations about the lack of proper structures, royalties, and long-term financial support for musicians in earlier generations.
