A lot of controversies surround Vodafone Ghana Music Awards bribery comment and the latest will be from Contemporary highlife singer, Akwasi Opoku a.k.a Kwaisey Pee.
According to him, he never cherished the award he won at the 2007 Ghana Music Awards as ‘Best Male Vocal Performance‘, adding that it was more like a gift from Charter House.
Speaking to Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5FM, the hiplife artist said he has always doubted the credibility of the scheme but was chastised by many musicians who thought he was only a noisemaker who wanted to be heard.
Kwaisey Pee noted that he was paid with the Award for service rendered to Charter House and was not awarded based on his hard work as an artist.
“I was awarded based on some loss I made when I was working with them. I got to know the reason behind my award when I went for the money I thought I was entitled to due to my winning but I got to know they just did that to please me.”
He also disclosed that, he feels ashamed whenever it’s mentioned he won the best male vocalist of the year 2007, he noted that, that award added should never be added to his achievements.
“How can I value an award which was given to me not because of my hard work. I’m not proud of it and I can’t even remember were I dropped that award. Our hard works as musicians are not recognized.”
Kwaisey Pee added that once the Head of Communications for the prestigious award ceremony (VGMA), George Quaye has admitted the bribery scandal, it confirms what some artistes have said.
He is noted for songs like “Susana”, “Mehia “Odo”, “Akono Akono”, “Monto”, “Nonum”, “Akyekyere Me”, “Adene”, “Krokro Me”, “Akona Yaa”, Osugyani and more.
