DISQUALIFICATION OF DR CLEMENT OPPONG (NPP PARLIAMENTARY ASPIRANT FOR ATWIMA NWABIAGYA SOUTH)

We write to express the disgust of the Atwima Nwabiagya Constituents towards the disqualification of the NPP Parliamentary Aspirant in the person of Dr Clement Oppong during the vetting process.

We consider the disqualification to be in variance with due diligence and a capricious attempt to favour the incumbent Member of Parliament (Hon. Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere) unduly. This decision of the Vetting Committee would not serve the NPP Party and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu Addo any good in the general election. We envisage the danger this decision looms in the 2020 general elections.

This decision, if not reverted would be inimical to the NPP Party in the general election, particularly the parliamentary one.

We humbly implore the National Executives to take a cue from the 2008 elections to avoid history repeating itself. We do not understand why somebody whose popularity has dropped among the electorates in the constituency would be allowed to go unopposed. It would have been better if the Vetting Committee did a little background checks in the Constituency to pick some intelligence about the incumbent Member of Parliament. In fact, that would have informed their decision on him.

How can you allow somebody whose public utterances have been questioned? A Member of Parliament who blatantly told a community to water the road leading to their town to reduce dust when the Community leaders requested of him to help them get their road tarred.

This Community members have warned him not to come there and campaign during the election period. This action has been replicated in so many instances in the Constituency making the MP and the Party unpopular. We reiterate that evidences abound here in the Constituency And not in Kumasi or Accra. Once again, we advise the National Leaders to come down in the Constituency to pick informed intelligence. How can you disqualify somebody who has been a member of the party for more than three years on the basis of being novice in the constituency? Dr Clement Oppong’s contribution in the constituency is not in doubt.

His popularity is far ahead the incumbent Member of Parliament and there is no doubt he would be a product of choice should we sell both to the electorates in the Constituency.
As it stands now, Atwima Nwabiagya people are questioning the quality of representation in parliament and have sworn to vote against the incumbent Member of Parliament should the Party brings him back. In fact, Atwima Nwabiagya people take pride in the fact that this is the Constituency that has nurtured one of the best Presidents (John Agyekum Kuffuour) in the Fourth Republic of this Country; and therefore the quality of representation matters to us.

We, therefore, conclude by requesting the National Appeals Committee to rescind this treacherous decision to prevent the unexpected to happen.

We are looking forward to hearing from you soon or else we the Youth in Atwima Nwabiagya South will force Dr. Clement Oppong to go as an independent candidate.

Yours faithfully,
Signed
