Takyi Kay is the grandson of the legendary highlife icon Alex Konadu, affectionately known as “One Man Thousand.” Inspired by his grandfather’s enduring legacy, he developed a passion for music and has remained committed to preserving authentic Ghanaian highlife while embracing modern styles that resonate with younger audiences.
He attended Aduman Senior High School, where he continued to nurture his love for music before pursuing a career that combines public service and entertainment.
Over the years, Takyi Kay has gained valuable experience performing alongside some of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians. He has served as both a backing and lead vocalist for legendary artistes including Nana Acheampong, the late Yaw Sarpong, the late Nana Tuffour and the late Daddy Lumba, experiences that have strengthened his vocal abilities, stagecraft and understanding of the music business.
One of the defining moments of his career came during KABFAM Legends Night 2023, where he shared the stage with Nana Acheampong and the late Daddy Lumba. The event later assumed historical significance as it became the final occasion on which the two highlife legends performed together publicly, making Takyi Kay part of a memorable chapter in Ghana’s music history.
His talent has also earned him opportunities to collaborate with some of the industry’s leading figures. He featured on Nana Acheampong’s song “Basaa,” a collaboration that showcased his vocal prowess and further enhanced his reputation as a rising force in Ghanaian music.
In his quest to reach a broader audience, Takyi Kay has expanded beyond traditional highlife. He released the street anthem “Kenken Kwa” and followed it with the inspirational single “Free Your Mind,” featuring award-winning musician King Paluta. The collaboration highlighted his ability to seamlessly fuse highlife with contemporary Ghanaian sounds.
Continuing his artistic evolution, Takyi Kay is preparing to release another collaboration with King Paluta titled “Fa Ma Me.”
The Afrobeat-inspired song is scheduled for release on August 14, 2026, and is expected to promote love, unity and togetherness among people across the world. The upcoming record reflects Takyi Kay’s commitment to exploring diverse musical genres while remaining rooted in Ghanaian culture and traditions.
