Popular Highlife musician known as Voltage in an interview with the 2018 Eastern region Promoter of the Year, Richard Brako Frimpong aka Papa Attitude on his Saturday Entertainment show, Rite Chat Show disclosed that Highlife Legend Amakye Dede has triggered a fight between the young Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat singer-songwriter, Eugene Kwame Marfo known on stage as Kuami Eugene and other Highlife artiste for crowning him as King of Highlife.

Highlife is a music genre that originated in present-day Ghana early in the 20th century, during it’s history as a colony of the British Empire. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, but is played with Western instruments.

According to Voltage, the whole scenario was planned by someone, all because Amakye Dede wasn’t even aware when the crown was brought to him and also Eugene was called back to stage after he left. “Because if you even watch the show, Amakye Dede was not aware that someone was bringing a crown for him to crown anyone, so immediately he received it, his next word was ‘wow’, Kuami himself went off the stage and came back. So you know that, it is something someone has planned to do,” he said.

Kuami Eugene, naturally is good, talented and is contributing a lot to the Ghana music industry but we should avoid things that would trigger enemies and create confusion among these young Acts, he added.

He then noted again that with what just happened, the Highlife Legend is creating problems for the industry and the young act’s business because singing is his only business now.

He further concluded that, he is quite hurt that a legend such as Amakye Dede also embraced what they planned. All the same, Eugene should be left alone, however, if they think he is good, then he has nothing to say about it but rather wait to witness the happenings of the future, he added.
