Over the weekend, Ghanaian old time musician,Gyedu-Blay Ambolley in a discussion on Atinka TV’s entertainment show “Entertainment City” hosted by Nana Adjoa Annan … revealed that both Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi that most Ghanaians describes them to be Highlife musicians are not.
The legend speaking on the topic “Highlife music and the way forward” described Kojo Antwi as just a reggae musician who sings in twi whiles Daddy Lumba is just a singer who sings on a disco beats and terms it highlife but what he does is real Highlife music and advised young musicians who wants to master in the genre to learn from their predecessors because they are willing to teach.
“In reality, Daddy Lumba is not a highlife musician, but sings in Twi to disco beats and terms it Highlife while Kojo Antwi is also just a Reggae musician who also sings in Twi and terms it Highlife” he told Nana Adwoa, the host of the show.
He added, what he does is real Highlife, even with his rap, because rap doesn’t change the genre of music.
He therefore endorsed the “Mansa” hitmaker,Bisa K’dei and described the kind of songs he composes as typical highlife among that of his peers.
