Protocol is a platform and a tool for successful diplomacy. It is the job of protocol officers to clear the hurdles in the best way they can so the diplomatic and political leadership is able to pursue the agenda at hand in the national interest.
It is the facet of diplomacy that works behind the scene. Good protocol is the framework that sets the tone and creates the atmosphere for effective diplomacy.
Many times, we tend to forget that behind any successful presidential or state event, there are men and women working tirelessly behind the scene to ensure a smooth operation before, during and after the event or activity to ensure everything goes well without a glitch.
It is mind boggling to consider the magnitude of work that goes into these kinds of matters such as transport arrangement, accommodation, food and security to name a few. It’s therefore easy to forget the people working behind the scenes to ensure everything goes according to plan.
