Frank Agyei Twum, Director of communications of the Vice president’s Office, has disarmed the claims of former rector of GIMPA, professor Stephen Adei.

According to the director of communication Mr. Agyei, the vice president only uses 7 vehicles which includes a leading police vehicle, security details, protocol, media team and ambulance and not 16 cars in his travels outside Accra.

In a press released yesterday , the office noted that, their attention has been drawn to a recent media publication following comments by professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of GIMPA that convoy of the vice president on a recent trips to Cape Coast consisted of 16 SUVs.

Mr.Agyei noted that on many occasions (including funerals) while on a trip, several other people, including the police commander of the area, minister, MPs, MMDCEs, CEOs and party officials may decide to meet and accompany the vice president on arrival.
He also said that, on this particular trip to Cape Coast, the Vice president used a total of 7 cars.

Meanwhile, the outspoken academic professor Stephen Adei has also expressed concern over the number of vehicles the vice president’s convoy uses during his trips around the country.

According to him, Akufo Addo government appears to have started well but the size of Mr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s convoy is unhealthy.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary celebrations of Morrison and Association(an international audit firm) the former reactor of the Ghana institute of management and professional studies Mr.stephen Adei said that, the next time he meet the vice president with such an elaborate convoy he will stage a one man demonstration, he angrily expressed.

He further emphasized that,” the next time he see Bawumia or any of them travelling with 16 four wheel Drive’s and occupying the two lanes he is going to do one man crusade to stop them,”he vehemently expressed.

He also stressed that, in October 2015 ,ace journalist Kwesi Pratt junior criticized former president John Mahama over the size of his convoy.
He also disclosed that, in Ghana the president, Vice president, speaker of parliament and the chief Justice are allowed by law to use a convoy on official and private rounds in the country.

“The huge number of vehicles stretching as far as the eye can see backs traffic up inconveniencing motorists….and has been an for many year,”.

He also lamented that,” if the number of vehicles is the high side, it’s very difficult to have proper control measures in place,” he told peace FM.
He also said that, “I followed them to Cape Coast last week and I was trying to overtake them to tell him to stop, and then the police stopped me and said Prof can you give a distance”, he disclosed.

He also said that, even though the government is doing well but he still charged him to put a stopped to what is happening or he is going to stage a one man demonstration to stopped them.
