AMEWU LACKS THE MORAL GROUND TO FIGHT GALAMSEY

Published

Mr. John Peter Amewu , the minister for Lands and Natural resources lacks the moral ground to fight illegal mining popularly known as “Galamsey”.

Mr.Amewu is engaging in an illegality by refusing to recuse himself from the position as the Volta Regional Chairman of the ruling New patriotic Party as directed by the party’s National Council.

As recalled, on the 10th of May, 2017 at Alisa Hotel in Accra, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Council met and directed that all Party Officers appointed into President Akuffo’s government must resign from their various positions they hold as party officers.

Interestingly and shockingly, Mr. Amewu, a man who has declared a fiat on illegal miners for engaging in illegal mining has deliberately refused to heed to the directive given by the National Council of the NPP. Does it not beat one’s imagination that a man who is fighting illegal mining is himself involved in an illegality by continuing to hold himself as the regional chair of the NPP in the Volta Region?

Mr. Amewu lacks the credibility to fight the galamsey menace because through his outmost disregard for national council directive,he can be appropriately described as the “Chief Galamseyer” . He must with immediate effect resign as a party officer if really he wants to be taken serious.

In as much as we applaud HON. Amewu for his efforts at fighting galamsey we believe that leadership by example can not be glossed over. Reliable checks at the party’s office in Ho indicate that none of the regional officers who were appointed into government have resigned and that is inhibiting party activities in the region.

Hon. Amewu can better fight this menace by absolving himself of any illegality. He should do the honourable thing by resigning from his post as regional chair and also implore other executives appointed into government in the region to do same in order to aid party activities.
