In a candid and passionate interview on Real Talk with Sammy Flex on Sammy Flex TV, Belgium-based Ghanaian musician Rebbel Ashes has urged the nation’s artists and stakeholders to unite and accelerate the global promotion of Ghanaian music. The multi-talented artist, known for bridging Afrobeat, hiplife, and rap, described the current moment as “long overdue” for Ghanaian sounds to claim their rightful place on the world stage.

Rebbel Ashes, who has built a strong presence in Europe while staying deeply rooted in his Ghanaian heritage, highlighted the disparities in how African music is perceived and marketed internationally. “Many non-Africans still view Africa as one big country or continent in one,” he explained. “But there are major differences and Nigerians have smartly used the Afrobeats card to market their music globally, even though the genre belongs to the whole continent.”

He emphasized that Ghana’s push should not be limited to highlife alone. “Our aim should not just be pushing highlife music,” Rebbel asserted. “Every genre practiced in Ghana from hiplife and Afro-fusion to contemporary rap and beyond needs to be elevated so we get a brighter chance at the table.”

The artist pointed to the growing international appetite for African music as a prime opportunity. “Non-Africans are now really into African music,” he noted. “If we all come together in a united front to push our music to the outside world, we will global.”

Rebbel also spotlighted his latest release, “What’s My Name” (Yɛ Frɛ Me Sɛn) featuring BK Smooth, which continues to dominate airwaves, streaming platforms, and social media discussions across Ghana and beyond.

The track exemplifies his signature fusion style blending West Coast hip-hop vibes with hiplife rhythms and serves as a powerful reminder of Ghana’s rich musical diversity.
