Kay Kenneth: Using Music to Deliver God’s Message to His People

Kenneth Ayew Kwegyir, popularly known as Kay Kenneth, is a Ghanaian gospel musician whose musical journey began in childhood and has continued to evolve through faith, personal experiences, and a deep desire for intimacy with God. Based in Obuasi and originally from Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region, Kay Kenneth began performing on stage at about 13 years old, entertaining audiences with popular love songs by Westlife and other R&B artistes. One of his earliest performance experiences was at Fun World, a programme often held at the popular A.G.A. Club House in Obuasi. Although he later became involved in church music, his passion for music and songwriting continued to grow quietly alongside his academic and personal journey.

His gift for songwriting also began at a young age, initially through transforming Psalms and other Bible memory verses into songs. This creative ability developed further during his Senior High School years and became even stronger when he entered the university. For Kay Kenneth, songwriting is deeply connected to his walk with God and his life experiences. His songs are often inspired by a desire to draw closer to God and communicate messages of faith, hope and devotion. Sometimes melodies and rhythms come to him through dreams, after which lyrics gradually come together during the day. At other times, the lyrics arrive first and the melody follows. Whenever a melody comes, he quickly records it on his phone to preserve the idea before putting the words on paper and completing the song.

Kay Kenneth recorded his first three complete songs in 2017, during his third year at the university. His official release journey began in 2019 with the song Faithful God, followed by You Are My God in 2020. Later that same year, he released an audio EP titled I Give My All, a project that reflected his heart of surrender and devotion to God. Although his music journey became inconsistent for a period due to personal challenges, Kay Kenneth has returned with renewed purpose and a determination to continue the work he believes God has entrusted to him.

As he begins this new chapter, Kay Kenneth plans to reintroduce his music to audiences through visual productions of songs from his I Give My All EP. He believes the songs still carry the power to impact lives and point people to God, and that presenting them visually can give their messages a fresh and stronger reach. His music is therefore not simply an artistic expression but an extension of his faith and testimony. At the centre of his journey is a clear mission: to deliver God to His people through music and messages, through Jesus Christ. With this renewed commitment, Kay Kenneth hopes his music will inspire hearts, strengthen faith, and ultimately lead people into a deeper relationship with God.
