KOFORIDUA MARKET WOMEN URINATE INTO LEFT OVER ‘CANS’ DURING MARKETING

The Market Women in koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital of the Republic of Ghana, in the New Juaben Municipality, urinate in the left over cans. This is a challenge the trader and their customers are going through and they do not know when this challenge will cease.

Koforidua Central Market is one of the major markets in the Ghana that attracts various kinds of traders from Volta Region, Greater Accra Region, Central Region and several districts in the Eastern Region to come to do trading activities on Mondays and Thursdays. The trading activities go on throughout the week but there are two days that major trading goes on. This market attract not less than two thousand five hundred (2,500) people per major market days and guess what, they traders do not have any place to urinate or visit public place of convenience.

Madam Grace, the queen mother of Bush Meat Sellers, in the Koforidua Market also known as Koforidua ‘Dwa-Kesie’ on Friday 12th May, 2017 in an interview on Eastern Agenda, a developmental radio programme on Eastern FM, with Chrix disclosed among other challenges that the market women do not have any proper urinal and place of convenience since time immemorial and therefore the situation forces market women to urinate in the left over cans and later throw it away in the already chocked gutters at the market. The same was confirmed on phone-in from the traders and concerned individual who were listening to the radio interview at the time.

Madam Grace used the opportunity on the radio show to appeal to the authorities to swiftly come to their aid before the situation generate pandemic that may lead to a great disaster in the New Juaben Municipality and beyond.

However,she also appealed to her colleagues to keep their stalls and surrounding clean which will invite general public to come to do business at the market.
