of Peace FM ‘s ” Entertainment Review “, Kwasi Aboagye has accused George Quaye, PRO for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) of taking cash from musicians promising them awards in return.
The ace radio presenter, on Thursday’s edition of his show, advised the spokesperson for the VGMA, to resign from his position, adding that he (Quaye) should not go close to even 400 meters to “anything that has to do with Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.”
According to him, many Ghanaian musicians have in times past, accused organisers of the awards show of receiving bribes from undeserving artistes to award them, and thus, least expected the ‘ Pundits’ Show host to bandy about such a “ careless” allegation.
“George is the person who has been collecting money from people,” he posited.
A couple of days ago, George Quaye, reportedly made a rather unprofessional statement that gospel artistes have been making frantic efforts to bribe some members on the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) board.
The Head of Communications for Charterhouse Ghana, organisers of the acclaimed prestige award scheme, was reported to have said on the popular Entertainment Television show on
GhOne , ‘ Pundits ’ that the most offers of bribe that come to him as an Executive of the VGMA scheme are from gospel artistes.
George, who is the host of the show, stated that a lot of gospel artists have offered him a bribe in exchange for picking awards.
While discussing the topic, ‘ The Dark Side of Ghana Music: The envy, hatred and malice in the GH. Gospel Music Fraternity. A reality, perception or myth? ” – George, who has so much experience as one of the producers of the event also asserted that some gospel artists also engineer ways to thwart the efforts of other gospel artists who gain nominations in the scheme.
In subsequent interviews with the media after news of his allegations went viral, he hinted that at the appropriate time he will reveal the names of those bribe givers, and indicated that when he resigns as the spokesperson of Charterhouse, he wouldn’t hesitate to disclose names of musicians who were involved in the bribery allegation.
Clearly galled by the VGMA PRO’s remarks, Kwesi Aboagye stressed that no official at Charterhouse would request cash from an artiste in assurance of winning an award, save George Quaye. He posited that nobody can influence the VGMA’s board to win an award due to how the scheme is structured.
“George Quaye should resign as PRO for VGMAs. After resigning as spokesperson, he should not come 400 meters close to anything related to the music awards.
The scheme has been suffering from perception that people have been paying bribe. Musician upon musician have been accusing those at the helm of affairs regarding the VGMA of underhand dealings by receiving bribes for awards. The reason why I’m saying George should resign is that, George is the person who has been receiving these bribes from people.
If it is not George who has been requesting cash from the musicians, then who has been doing so? Is it Nii Ayittey Hammond, Iyiola Ayoade, Theresah or who?
Anyone who tells you, you can bribe your way into winning an award at the VGMA, is telling lies considering how the scheme works. Judging from what I know about the awards, you cannot win by bribery. Nobody can influence anybody to win an award at the VGMAs so when I hear those things I always burst into laughter.
So for George to make that allegation, it means that he is the one who has been doing that. He has been telling people to give him money assuring them of his ability to aid them in winning an award,” Kwasi Aboagye said before he ended his show.
He later asked management at Charterhouse to take action against George Quaye for his bribery assertions because what he said “bothers on the credibility of the awards scheme” .
